Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  2. Start by washing and peeling the apples, heat water in a saucepan until boiling; dissolve brown sugar and cinnamon in the water, then add in the apples and lemon juice, cook for 10 minutes, or until softened.
  3. Drain off the water and transfer to an oven dish, layering the whole bottom so there’s no gaps.
  4. In a mixing bowl, add in butter, flour and granulated sugar. Combine these ingredients by rubbing in with your fingertips, until you get a sandy/breadcrumb-like texture.
  5. Shake the bowl and ensure every large part is crumbled, to ensure no buttery chunks are left over, prior to baking.
  6. Pour the crumble mix over the apples and cover evenly; use a fork to gently even out any sloped parts to get a completely flat top.
  7. Place into the pre-heated oven for 20-30 minutes; until the crumble is crispy and the apples are softened.
  8. Serve and enjoy on its own or topped with vegan ice cream, sweet cream or custard!
